Hello all,

Two forwarded talk announcements follow:

 From Prof. Dorothy Wong,

Dr. Donald Wood, Senior Curator of Asian Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art
"Kamisaka Sekka: Rimpa Master - Pioneer of Modern Japanese Design"
April 3, 5:30 pm, Campbell Hall 158

>From Christina Rathburn,

The First Minister of Scotland, the Right Honorable Alex Salmond, is
speaking on:

"Scotland and America: Lessons from the Land of Jefferson"

Tuesday April 1st at the Dome Room of the Rotunda at 2pm

The visit is in honor of the 10th anniversary of a Senate Resolution which
celebrates that our Declaration of Independence was inspired in part by the
Scottish Declaration of Arbroath.

The First Minister is the first leader of the Scottish government in 300
years who believes in trusting the people to answer the question of
independence for themselves with a democratic referendum. Following his
historic election in May, the new Scottish National Party government has
gone from strength to strength - culminating in one of the most flattering
news stories in some time when the good people of Berwick (England's
northernmost town) voted in a poll that they wanted to be part of Scotland.

His first actions as First Minister included launching a Council of Economic
Advisers to advise on raising Scotland’s sustainable growth rate, paring
down the size of the Central Government, advancing the world’s biggest
innovation prize for renewable energy, introducing legislation to make
higher education free, lowering business taxes to spur economic investment
and launching a National Conversation on independence. The BBC has ranked
him as one of the UK’s three greatest living political heroes.
