DOUGLAS K. SPAULDING
"Legal Policy in Guantanamo Bay"

Douglas K. Spaulding is a member of the Financial Industry Group, practicing 
in the area of Financial Services Litigation. Mr. Spaulding actively 
represents clients in a broad spectrum of substantive legal areas, with a 
particular emphasis on civil litigation. He obtained his J.D. from the 
University of Virginia Law School. Mr. Spaulding has worked for various 
prestigious law firms such as 'Baker & Hostetler', where he taught trial 
advocacy courses sponsored by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy at 
the Harvard Law School and the Georgetown Law Center, 'Martin, Beck & 
Smith', and 'Reed Smith', where he was the Former Managing Partner of the 
Washington office. Before his tenure as a lawyer, he served for four years 
as a troop leader in the Marine Corps.
Recently, he worked pro bono as a lawyer for three detainees of Guantanamo 
Bay, one of which was Saudi who was held for 5 years and never charged with 
a criminal offense or violation of law of war. Mr. Spaulding received the 
2007 Sean Halpin award from the firm of Reed Smith in recognition of his 
work for the habeas corpus petitions for the three detainees.
