For those of you who might be in England this summer, the Compton-Verney
gallery has what seems like a beautiful exhibition. Called "The Starry
Messenger: Visions of the Universe," the show "looks at artists' visions of
the universe and its continuing influence on the imagination."

Three leaves of John Cage's sketches for Atlas Eclipticalis are part of this
exhibition, and I believe they are displayed alongside of the source material
he used, Antonin Becvar's Atlas Eclipticalis - a star atlas.

Based on the published catalog (which does not contain facsimiles of the Cage
mss.), it looks like a fascinating and entertaining exhibit, and even if that
were not so, the 1760 estate on which Compton-Verney is located looks
sumptuous and well worth a visit.

Here's a URL for the exhibit, and easy links for more information about
getting there:

"The Starry Messenger" is on display until September 10, 2006.
