Hello,

I'm a new member and I find this mailing list very interesting.

I just attended a workshop with visiting artist Catharine Cartwright about
"open form composition". She has interpreted Cage's Aria and Solo for voice
# 43, 17, 72, 12, 27 from his Song Books with her jazz quintet. Her CD, La
Faute de la Musique, Songs of John Cage, Harriton Carved Wax, was recorded
on January 12, 2000 (with 2 minutes of each song downloadable from her site:
www.katchie.com). So I expect some of you have already heard it.

Being new, I don't know if I may ask such questions but I have a double
one:

What do you think about this experience and more generally about that of
jazz singers or players interpreting Cage's works?

Thanking you in advance,

Jacques ASWAD
