In the final ArtSounds of this season, Dwight Frizzell, KCAI assistant
professor, and Andrew Granade, UMKC assistant professor of musicology,
have sought to create their own version of American composer John
Cage's "Musicircus," which will be performed at 8 p.m. April 10 in
Vanderslice Hall. A variety of student musicians, performers and
dancers from KCAI and UMKC will combine to create a unique sensory
experience. This version of "Musicircus" includes Philip Schuessler's
lecture-performance "Theater Piece No. 2: the Unimpededness of John
Cage's Theater Piece No. 1 and the Interpenetration of Black Mountain
College"
ArtSounds is a collaboration between the Kansas City Art Institute and
the Conservatory of Music and Dance at UMKC. Faculty from each
institution join together to produce provocative events that explore a
maximum breadth of means, methods, media and music: art sounds and
music sees. All ArtSounds events are free and open to the public. For
more information, call 816-802-3423.
