I just completed reading the fascinating book Chance and Circumstance
by Carolyn Brown, and she describes the dancers of the Cunningham
troupe tossing pennies for John while he was composing Atlas
Elipticalis. Her descriptions of Variations V, 9 Evenings, and other
classic events is revealing and human. It's a great read, making some
of the legends of that time come alive from a dancer's point of view.
Highly recommended.
