[silence] Songbooks

Thanks Ralph for the Stylus Magazine article.
Strangely curious one that seems to find contradictions
where I don't see them and then, in it's middle section,
appears to erase the idea that there *are* contradictions.
The author appears to be confused about Cage's
statement - a bit out of context - that "it makes no difference
what the results are..." when the statement was clearly
used to make the point that "the release of habits" is the
focal point of a performer's interpretation of a Cage piece.
I don't understand where "questions of authenticity"
come into play concerning the three examples sited:
Tudor's creative extension of Variations II;
Eastman's actions and Kotik's response in regards to
the Songbooks performance and the complete disregard
for Cage's instructions of the 103 piece
(I believe you and I spoke about this when we visited in Frankfurt).
It seems to me that each instance can be fully explained,
yay or nay, so-to-speak, in regard to John's intentions.
Anyway, another article that's "food for thought."
Hope you're doing well,
Rod
