[silence] please help identifying Cage quote

Good day,

 

A faculty member here wants to use the following quote so he needs a
reference to where it existed (which issue, etc. or a journal, book, or
other published entity). I stumbled upon this list and thought someone
here might be able to point me in the right direction.

 

"If art was going to be of any use, it was going to be of use not with
reference to itself, but with reference to the people who used it."
