Thats great, I will have to look into it. Right now I am working on completing a manuscript on re-interpreting Cage's 4'33" using our current understanding of noise, music and commodification and how we can go forward. I am trying to expand on Attali's idea's in his masterwork 'Noise'. Any contemporay books or those covering Cage's work on 4'33" would be helpful.

  Thanks,

  Fred

a warm thank you to all of you.. your suggestions are really appreciated.
in fact: i already read the piece "is this music" by davies, i got his book last autumn, its quite a nice read.
i ordered "audio culture" a few days ago, hopefully it arrives soon. i still need to go through all of those links, but i'll be doing that the coming days. thank you all very much.. i hope i can find some more interesting (and maybe academic) texts on noise from a musical perspective.

feel free to contact me when you think of something else, ofcourse im always happy to get more tips!

kind regards,

wim

2007/3/7, greg davis < gregorytylerdavis@gmail.com>: i got a book for christmas called 'Noise' by Bart Kosko.
he approaches the subject of noise in more scientific and
mathematical terms.
he touches on noise pollution and other types of noisy systems in the
world.
havent read the whole book yet, but it offers some nice perspective
on noise from outside the musical world.
