I agree with you. I think Greg Davis, who provided the archive to me,
may have made the same suggestion. Basically, since I had the space
and the bandwidth to spare on the web server I use, I offered to host
the older messages just so they could be made available in some form.
To this end, so far all I have done is  post one giant html file with
no tools.  I agree that ideally all the archives get consolidated at
the University of Virginia at some date. Still, in the meantime, at
least they are available and are there there for the taking.
