Hello,
I am currently undertaking research on Cage at the University of York Department of Music with Bill Brooks. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone with any information (or opinions, suspicions or advice!) on two topics related to Cage’s early years (as detailed in Thomas Hines’ “Then Not Yet Cage” in Composed in America):

the life and artistic interests of Cage’s friend Don Sample (further to the brief information contained in Hines’ chapter and David Nicholls’ new book John Cage etc.).
Cage’s mother’s Arts and Crafts shop, and her interest in the Arts and Crafts Movement.

  Thanks,
  Ed Crooks
