Hi there Petr!

Nice to hear you up front, taking on the ignorants! Seriously, great
to get comments from you! I know you've recorded Atlas E with the
S.E.M. In fact, I ordered it from Amazon, and it's on its way to me now.

Well, I'm not the one to discuss this issue with you, since I don't
know much about this piece, I'm sorry to say. I'll just record and
photograph. I know I saw a CONDUCTOR SCORE (Edition Peters No. 6782)
at the first meeting of the orchestra, but I know that each
instumentalist or instumentalist group then study their parts
individually. These instrumental groups in fact are supposed to meet
several times to reherase, and then there are a few "tutti"
rehersals, when all play the work together.

Mats Persson (Do you know him? He's very knowledgable, often plays in
duo with Kristine Scholz) will lead the study. He says that the
recording you made in 1992 is the best one yet. If you'd care to
send him some thoughts, please do, he'd appreciate that a lot, and
this way you have a chance to influence the May 25 performance for
the better. His address is:

matsper@bredband.net

When I said "according to the score", I was very uncareful! I meant
that the orchestra would play the INSTRUMENTS that are specified in
the conductor score. This came up in Stockholm, since, originally,
the Great Learning Orchestra would play the work, but they demanded
to be able to change the instruments, and use other instruments, not
specified in Cage's notes. Mats Persson wouldn't have this, and he
found musicians who would play the specified instruments. That's why
I made that remark, which otherwise seems out of place!

Mats Persson does not want to use a clock for the clock... He says
that the contact in the room between "the clock" and the performers
might be important. Otherwise, a clock has been suggested by some. A
dancer came up, not because of Cunningham, but because it is very
strenuous to wave your arms like that, slowly, and dancers are
usually strong... Mats is talking about a possible duration of 80
minutes. I suggest you write to Mats about the clock issue, because
your ideas here seem to be a little different than Mats', and I know
he respects you a lot. You might tell him we had this Internet exchage!

My best wishes,

Ingvar
