I have no doubt that at present, a nine-month old ghost named Stockhausen
is busy arguing with the 90 years-and-five-month-old ghost named
Achille-Claude Debussy that although much younger, he is doing a much
better job of being a ghost. In fact, he will probably argue that he is
responsible for the most remarkable innovations in ghostology since cotton
sheets. The 16-year old ghost John Cage is, of course chuckling about the
26-year-and-nine-month-old ghost Cornelius Cardew, who had once, in 1972,
prematurely mistaken Cage for either a ghost (or was it a monster?), but
now worries about young Stockhausen's imperial ambitions among the musical
ghosts.
