To all friends at Silence:
  It is with sadness that I inform all of you of the recent demise of Professor Daniel Charles.  He was a splendid human being who touched so many lives and his writings and teachings have contributed enormously to the world of music , art and philosophy.  The works "Pour les Oiseau" and "Gloses sur Cage" have a privileged place in the area of Cage studies.
  Others will write more eloquently on the achievements of this dear friend but those of us who knew him well were blessed with nearness of such brilliance and generosity.  We shall miss him.
