Isn't the whole idea about having faith in humanity? Achieving a collective
or cosmic consciousness? Then making music? He never really said that, but
that's the feeling I got from everything I have absorbed about his program.
I met Cage once, just a few weeks before he died, and all he seemed to want
to do was laugh and feel good. Humanity and living life was more important
than anything else, even music. He seemed to want everyone to rise to the
occasion: organizers, conductors, musicians and audience. Play your part well,
then bask in it for a few moments or a lifetime. Improvise, adapt and
overcome.
Best,
John Emr - New York City

Who suggested reading a score in a vacuum? From the start I've
suggested it was not required (optional, up to each person to decide).

Would wanting to have a beer with Barack Obama be different than
wanting to have one with George Bush?

It would be different for each person ... up to each person to decide
these matters.
