Isn't the whole idea about having faith in humanity? Achieving a collective
or cosmic consciousness? Then making music? He never really said that, but
that's the feeling I got from everything I have absorbed about his program.
I met John Cage at his MOMA retrospective, just a few weeks before he died,
and all he seemed to want to do was laugh and feel good. Humanity and living
life was more important than anything else, even music. He seemed to want
everyone to rise to the occasion: organizers, conductors, musicians and
audience. Play your part well, then bask in it for a few moments or a lifetime.
Improvise, adapt and overcome.

Best,

John Emr - New York City
