Just a little comment regarding this book:

- Cage, J. and Knowles, A. (1973). Notations. Reprint Services Corp.

It's been several years since I looked at this book, but my recollection 
is that Cage's book NOTATIONS is a collection of uniquely notated new 
music which was intended to be perceived by the viewer as visual art. 
Therefore the book contains excerpts with no explanations behind the 
aural intent of the composer.  I'm not sure if such a book was what you 
had in mind.
