Has it been mentioned that the sequel to the 1969 Cage book Katherine mentions will be released later this year by Theresa Sauer Tisano (whom I believe may be a member of this list)? Unlike the original edition, which was in black and white, it will contain many examples of color notation, and composers from more areas of the world, including composers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, etc.--all works having been composed over the 39 years since the original publication came out. A series of three concerts of some of the pieces featured in the book (along with a gallery showing of score pages) will take place at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City, on consecutive weekends in October 2008 (Oct. 4, 11, and 18); I've heard that Stuart Saunders Smith and Halim El-Dabh will be there to conduct their works.

- Cage, J. and Knowles, A. (1973). Notations. Reprint Services Corp.

It's been several years since I looked at this book, but my recollection
is that Cage's book NOTATIONS is a collection of uniquely notated new
music which was intended to be perceived by the viewer as visual art.
Therefore the book contains excerpts with no explanations behind the
aural intent of the composer. I'm not sure if such a book was what you
had in mind.

Just a minor caveat,

Best wishes,

Katherine Setar
