Hi
There is much much more than the prepared piano in the music of John Cage.
If you live in Paris, I advise you to go to any library (bibliothèques
d'arrondissement) and check on the books of John Cage; they all have at least
one. (For your information, the Picpus municipal library is devoted to music and
has more books on John Cage than any other).
If you want to have a quick overview of the various composition methods and
issues in music John Cage used and raised, I suggest you look for more
information on the following pieces :
- Works for prepared piano
- String Quartet in Four Parts
- Music of Changes
- 4'33
- Concerto for piano and orchestra
- Variations II
- Etudes boréales
- Freeman etudes
- What about the noise of crumpling paper...
- Ryoanji
- All the number pieces (Five, Two5, and if you're playing the saxophone Four5
especially)
That should give you enough information as a start.
Do not hesitate to contact me personnally if you need more.
Best regards,
Alexandre Popoff
