* Regarding the composers who utilize silence in a significant manner,
there is a " Concerto for Conductor without Orchestra," by the American
composer Francis Schwartz that was premiered at Napa Valley College in 2005.
On that occasion the conductor and music department chairman Dr.
Roberto-Juan Gonzalez executed the work to considerable public enthusiasm.
Imagine a conductor in tails in front of the public without an orchestra
going through the tics and techniques of 'maestros' at work. Now THAT'S an
ego trip! And you don't have to spar with the string section. It's a lot of
fun.*
