[silence] Composers who use lots of silence

For me, one of the most interesting composers using
silence today is Thomas DeLio, who though influenced by
Cage, uses silence is a way decidedly different from how
Cage used it. I'm thinking especially of how that relates
to intention and the idea of "framing." First the use of
silence is intentional and made out of specific personal
choices, most of which relate to the use of sound and
silence as borders or frames. Second, does silence frame
sound or sound frame silence? In DeLio's music this
question becomes a musical experience rather than an
intellectual question. I highly recommend it to those who
are not yet familiar with DeLio's work.
