Dear colleagues,
A postdoctoral fellowship is available to
study mutations obtained in a screen for
developmental phenotypes in embryos of the frog
Xenopus tropicalis. This project involves
phenotypic characterization and mapping/cloning
of these mutations, as well as characterization
of additional mutations obtained by ongoing
reverse and forward genetic screens.
The X. tropicalis genetic system combines
embryological and molecular phenotyping assays
with a simple diploid genome highly syntenic to
amniotes, and genomic resources including a
genetic map, over one million ESTs, and a whole
genome sequence assembly. See Goda et al, (2006)
Genetic Screens for Mutations Affecting
Development of Xenopus tropicalis, PloS Genetics
2(6):e91. Applicants should have skills in
molecular biology, critical thinking, and
scientific communication, plus a strong interest
in genetics and development, and at least three
years of research experience.
Situated in Mill Hill, north west London, United
Kingdom, the National Institute for Medical
Research is the largest MRC institute, supporting
some 70 research groups and 500 bench scientists.
The Institute provides excellent training for
researchers in a multi-disciplinary environment
and is equipped with state of the art facilities,
including imaging, sequencing, crystallography,
NMR, electron microscopy, mass spectroscopy and
transgenics. The Institute provides a large-scale
amphibian facility with excellent technical
assistance, as well as a supportive developmental
biology community. Salary is from £26,405 to
£32,001 per annum (inclusive of Location
Allowance). Final Salary Pension Scheme
available. Recruitment information packs can be
downloaded from the Institute website
http://www.nimr.mrc.ac.uk/jobs/. These can also
be obtained by contacting Stacey Saunders on +44

nimr.recruitment@ssc.mrc.ac.uk. Formal
applications, which should include a full CV and
the names and addresses of two referees, should
be sent to Stacey Saunders, HR Recruitment
Assistant, MRC Shared Service Centre, North Star
House, North Star Avenue, Swindon, SN2 1FF,
alternatively email to
nimr.recruitment@ssc.mrc.ac.uk, quoting the
appropriate reference number.
